Abrasive Wheels
(Course outline)

1st 4 Safety in Waterlooville works with local businesses to ensure all health and safety standards are up to date.

Who should attend?

Anyone who comes into contact with abrasive wheels (Grinding wheels, cutting discs).
Anyone who is responsible for those who carry out this type of work (Managers, supervisors, store workers etc.).

Course content

The course will be interesting and engaging. It will involve group discussion and activities to ensure that the delegates understand the concept of the safe use of abrasive wheels and wheel mounting. We will cover:

  • Health & Safety legislation
  • Hazards associated with abrasive wheels
  • Accidents/incidents caused through the incorrect use of abrasive wheels
  • Different types and uses of abrasive wheels
  • Understanding the abrasive wheel marking systems
  • Selecting the right wheel for the right job
  • Inspection, testing and storage
  • Mounting of the wheels (includes a practical verification test)
  • Making sure the correct PPE/RPE is worn
  • Creating a safe environment to work within
  • General safe use of the equipment
  • A test at the end to verify participants understanding.

Course duration

  • Half-day
  • Can be organised at the client’s venue, dependent upon numbers

Refresher training

  • The certificate will be provided on completion and is valid for 3 years from date of training

Assessing understanding

  • Tutor assessment throughout
  • Questionnaire and practical at the end

You will need to bring

  • Equipment will be used for demonstration
  • Any experiences you wish to share on the day for all to learn from.
  • If held at client site, then equipment you personally use should be made available
  • Sensible clothing, safety boots, Hi-Viz, goggles/glasses, hearing protection and gloves
